Stoney Hollow Farm

High Tunnel Fruit Production
Grant Award: $10,000

Drosophila Suzukii is an invasive fruit fly pest that damages soft fruit. Due to losses from this pest, Stoney Hollow Farm curtailed growing blackberries and blueberries and instead expanded their vegetable production. With this AgOptions project, Scott plans to restore fruit production on the farm, resulting in increased sales, profits, and the sustainability of the operation for future generations.

The grant will fund excavation work and the construction of two high tunnels, along with an irrigation system and soil amendments. Insect netting will be installed to control the entry of Drosophila. In addition to selling to local restaurants and specialty food producers, the farm stand is open to the public, and adding berries will significantly increase traffic to the farm
