Scism Farm

Cattle Diversification
Grant Award: $10,000

Scism Farm has been a large-scale producer of commodity crops such as soybeans, corn, and wheat since the late 1980s. They have also produced 360,000 turkeys per year since then. With the help of an AgOptions grant, the farm will diversify into beef cattle this year. This project directly increases Scism Farm’s long-term sustainability by diversifying their revenue and maximizing land use.

The grant will fund permanent fencing and gates, converting previously idle ground into productive grazing land. The addition of cattle strengthens the operation’s resilience to market fluctuations in grain and poultry while improving soil fertility with grazing animals.
