Myco Rhizing
Apiary Upgrade
Grant Award: $10,000
Myco Rhizing sells mushrooms and honey at their farmstand, as well as weekly markets and festivals. This year, they will upgrade their apiary with all horizontal Layens hives, making honey harvesting easier while providing the bees with a deep, insulated box, ensuring winter survival. The addition of 17 hives will increase the harvest of honey as well as wax and propolis, which will be used to make more bee products.
The addition of a small storage shed will allow them to store beekeeping equipment in a dry area while still exposing frames to freezing temperatures during the winter, killing wax moth larvae that could damage them when not in use. Adding bee beds as eight of the hives will bring added bee products and farm experiences for visitors.
