Danny Hyatt Farms

Cattle Working Squeeze Chute
Grant Award: $10,000

As a member of the Mountain Cattle Alliance (MCA), Danny sells preconditioned calves through the WNC Regional Livestock Center. Preconditioning produces healthier, more consistent calves in size and weight, enabling them to be sold in load lots. These calves bring more money than those that are not preconditioned. The MCA requires calves to be worked at least three times to be vaccinated, tagged, implanted, and dewormed. Danny’s old working chute is homemade and needs to be replaced.

With his grant, Danny will purchase a new Arrowquip squeeze chute with an alleyway and a cut gate. The equipment will be set on a concrete pad to provide a level workspace with a sound footing for workers. Once installed, the equipment will provide a lower-stress and safer setup for the animals and the workers.
