Soil Amendments to Reduce the Effects of Phytophthora Root Rot on Fraser Firs

D and J Trees grows Fraser Firs, which are susceptible to root rot caused by Phytophthora. Jack will use his grant to reclaim four acres of high-quality Fraser fir-growing land that has been lost to Phytophthora root rot. The pathogen does not survive well at low pH or in the presence of free calcium.
By applying sulfur, calcium, and root shield, Jack will reduce pathogenic effects on his seedlings, enabling him to grow on his own land rather than lease new fields at a higher cost.
