Honey Extraction & Processing Upgrades

Joshua currently sells pure raw honey and value-added honey and beeswax products through partnerships with local retail shops and directly to consumers at the Foothills Farmers’ Market in Shelby. To accommodate his planned expansion from 40 to 100 hives by 2027, Joshua plans to equip his 12’x15’ honey extraction room with new extraction and processing equipment.
For honey extraction, Joshua will purchase a 20-frame honey extractor, a motorized chain uncapper, and an electric cappings spinner. For honey processing, he will purchase a creamed honey machine, cooling cabinet, and honey stick machine.
Joshua estimates that this new equipment will enable him to extract and process honey from 2.5 times more beehives with a 70% reduction in time spent. Improved efficiency and higher production will enhance the farm’s long-term economic viability.
