Black Trumpet Farm
Enhanced Cold Storage for Improved Post-Harvest Quality in Gourmet Mushrooms
Grant Award: $10,000
Black Trumpet Farm currently produces 800 pounds of gourmet mushrooms each week. Their indoor cultivation facility was designed to produce 1,000 pounds weekly, a scale that would allow them to meet existing market demand and provide living wages for several employees and themselves. Their growth is constrained by an inadequate walk-in cooler that is too small and cannot maintain consistent temperature and humidity levels, which are crucial for producing high-quality mushrooms for their customers.
This grant would fund the installation of a 10’x20’ walk-in CoolBot™ cooler. The new cooler will maintain consistent temperatures and reduce post-harvest losses, enabling Black Trumpet to expand production capacity and support long-term farm viability.
