Ellen Lohmeyer, East Sylva Flower Farm

Mobile Floral Cooler for Fresh Flower Storage, Markets & Events
Grant Award: $8,000

To support their rapidly growing flower business, East Sylva Flower Farm will add a mobile refrigeration cooler to their operation. This unique mobile unit, inspired by a NC State trailer conversion project, will serve multiple purposes on the farm.

Ellen will purchase a dual axle 7′ x 12′ bumper pull enclosed horse/livestock style trailer and convert it with the addition of a cooling/heating unit and CoolBot® system.

During the growing season it will be critical as floral storage, especially useful as they grow in several locations. It will also be used for deliveries, special events and will allow them to travel to multiple farmers/tailgate markets. During the winter months it will serve a dual purpose as a seed starting and germination room, making this a year-round asset to the farm.

East Sylva Flower Farm has seen exponential growth since 2021 and the addition of this equipment will allow them to continue growth and meet future demand. They currently sell at the Haywood Historic Farmers Market, The Village Green Farmers Market in Cashiers, Milltown Farmers Market in Canton, via their CSA through WNC Farm to Table and multiple wedding and event venues.
