Cheryl Judge-Decker, Paint Horse Flower Farm

Walk-in Floral Cooler
Grant Award: $8,000

With her 2023 grant, Cheryl installed a 16′ x 40′ high-side greenhouse, which has allowed her to almost triple her cut flower yields. To properly store her flowers and avoid loss, she used her 2024 grant to install an 8′ x 10′ walk-in cooler using a CoolBot® system in a 10′ x 20′ shed with a 10′ x 12′ workspace for processing flowers.

In addition to protecting her cut flower harvest, the cooler will also allow her to store and multiply her dahlia bulbs, which do not ship well leaving wholesalers to source them locally. Cheryl sells to whole distributors, florists, and provides flowers for events.

Since florists typically buy what they project to need for each week, having cool storage will allow Cheryl to be more flexible with her customers as their demand fluctuates week to week.
