Scott Boxberger, Stoney Hollow Farm
Farm Equipment and Expansion Project
Grant Award: $8,000
Stoney Hollow Farm has a well-established business, serving their community from the same location for over 20 years. They have a farm store and offer a CSA, and they also sell to local restaurants. With a recent change in Graham county alcohol laws, Scott anticipates an increase in tourism and he is ready to scale up his operation. Scott sells his produce at a barn on site that he shares with his wife’s antique business. The arrangement provides a unique shopping opportunity for his customers, many of whom are seasonal residents at nearby Lake Santeelah.
Scott purchased a plastic mulch and drip tape layer, which has saved many hours of labor per bed. Previously he was laying the plastic mulch by hand. The landscape fabric and drip irrigation system will improve weed pressure and growing conditions in the greenhouses. Scott will install the five low tunnels this fall and it will enable him to extend his season for lettuce, broccoli, and brussels sprouts. Scott anticipates this will allow him to double his winter production.
