Jennifer Perkins, Looking Glass Creamery, LLC
Farmyard Attraction
Grant Award: $6,000
To complete their original concept for agritourism on the farm, Looking Glass Creamery is adding an interactive space for visitors to get up close with farm animals as part of their experience of visiting a working dairy. To the existing creamery and on-farm store, the grant will assist in adding a 20×20 shed, a goat tower and climbing obstacles, hand washing station, footpaths, picnic tables/seating and, of course, goats.
Because most of their cows are located far away from the creamery on the 225-acre farm, visitors continually request to see animals up close. The new area will fulfill that demand, and will also provide an engaging place to educate the public on farming, dairying, cheese production, local food and sustainable agriculture. There is also the opportunity to generate revenue through hosting small events like birthday parties and receptions.
