Food Safety Produce Packing Shed

Dugan Farms currently has no way to meet GAP and other food-safety requirements and there are no packing and washing sheds available to farmers on the Qualla Boundary, so David and John plan to build a GAP-certified facility for tribal use. It will be a metal structure equipped with plumbing and electrical featuring washing tubs and a root washer.
Some infrastructure already exists that can be worked into this project. The facility will allow the farm to expand its markets and income while bringing more locally grown food to the community. David and John are working with Empowering Mountain Food Systems to develop a website and social media strategy to increase online marketing efforts.
