Plow Boys Crop Production has diversified the farm with the addition of a cow-calf operation. Grant funds were used to purchase 10 bred Hereford cows, a breed chosen for their docile nature. They are extremely happy with their new livestock and are enthusiastic about getting into the cow-calf business.
Lucas and Russell (cousins) are developing a breeding cow and calf operation with the goal of having 100 head of cattle to market 40-60 calves per year.
This new venture will complement their existing hay and corn feed operation and will present new retail (beef) opportunities for further sustainability of their farm. With this project, they hope to meet their future goal to be full-time farmers.
