Larry and Brandon Lee, Lee Farms
Bulk Feed Storage
Grant Award: $6,000
In order to save money and time, Lee Farms has added a facility to store bulk feed for their calving operation. Previously, they were feeding from 50 pound bags.
A dedicated shed to store bulk feed will cut the cost of feed dramatically, saving $9,000-$11,000 annually. Also, because bulk feed tends to be superior in nutrition, they will be able to get a better feed conversion and growth rate.
The new shed has simplified the entire feeding process by streamlining feeding, allowing for more calves to feed at once, and freeing up more time to spend caring for the livestock. Although they do not currently sell to individuals, this project will allow them to increase the herd, allowing for future opportunities to offer freezer beef as an additional revenue stream.
