Vineyard Expansion and Diversification
Crawford Acres has expanded their grape plantings by 472 vines and diversified their crop with three new varieties of grapes. Their grant covered the costs for new vines, soil amendments, trellising and tools. By expanding to 3 to 5 acres and diversifying their varieties, Crawford Acres plans to be a viable vineyard, supplying their winery with grapes suited for making wines indicative of the WNC mountain soils.
A tasting room and vineyard tours will bring both local and tourists to the farm for an agritourism experience. They will also be working with area wineries to expand into a “wine trail,” further highlighting the rich agricultural assortment of WNC family farms.
