On-Site Hatchery

Cantrell Creek Trout Farm has opened an on-site hatchery to produce fry and fingerlings for their operation and the growing bait market in WNC and surrounding states. They used an existing building, updated all existing infrastructure, made repairs and renovations to their farm, and installed new equipment. The new hatchery is up and running and the first batch of new fry hatched in August.
The farm will save money by hatching their own fish and the excess fry and fingerlings can be sold, which will also increase revenue to the farm each year.
Cantrell Creek Trout Farm currently sells bait in North Carolina, Tennessee and Georgia, and supplies feeder fish to private game clubs and land management companies, with potential for new markets at Lake Hartwell, Lake Chatuge and Lake Jackson in Georgia. They have added another full-time employee with this expansion project.
