Ronald and Cheryl Searcy
Wells Farm
Grant Award: $6,000 — Livestock Treatment Facility
The Searcys are improving their business of contract goat grazing by building a treatment facility for their animals. The building provides a safe area to examine livestock and reduces risk of injury and disease exposure to the farmers and veterinarians while treating the animals. They also anticipate saving 20 goats a year usually lost to disease.
With the improvements to the business, the Searcys expect expanding their brush-clearing services to their customers, which currently includes The Nature Conservancy, a large hydroelectric dam in rural Virginia, and the Manassas Civil War battlefield.
