Grant Award: $17,000 — SAFF Start-Up and Marketing Plan
Southern Appalachian Family Farms (SAFF) is creating a diverse marketing program to sell fresh, locally grown vegetables, fruit, meats, value-added and other agricultural products. The association anticipates boosting direct sales through the Internet, tailgate markets, restaurant merchants, local venues, schools and churches. SAFF’s objective is to enable farmers to create self-sufficient enterprises.
For the grant project, members will create a marketing identity, legal structure, membership directory, and membership benefits; establish a marketing plan, including a logo and promotional materials; and conduct a public awareness campaign. Funding will be used for legal assistance, marketing materials, membership development and miscellaneous administrative costs.
Currently SAFF is comprised of 40 farmers and organizations from Cherokee, Clay, and Graham Counties and will expand to Macon, Swain, Jackson, and Haywood Counties, including the Qualla Boundary of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians.
