Avery County Farmers Tailgate Marketing Association

Grant Award: $5,000 — Community Advertising and Educational Campaign
The association is undertaking an advertising and educational outreach campaign to build the local foods system in Avery County. The members are promoting two weekly Farmers Markets and encouraging new growers to sell at the market by developing and distributing professional marketing materials, including signs, street banners, flyers and T-shirts. They are working with students from Lees-McRae College to design a logo, write press releases and assist with flyer distribution.
They plan to host an event prior to the market opening to view the documentary “FRESH”. The association is working closely with the N.C. Cooperative Extension Service and Appalachian Sustainable Agricultural Project. The association’s goal is to help make full-time farming a reality for its members.
