Quinton Ellison & Kelley Penn: Balltown Bee Farm

Rabbitry for Commercial Meat Purposes
Grant Award: $6,000

Quinton and Kelley are expanding their current rabbitry into ten does, using New Zealand Whites. This expansion allows them to produce an average of 40 fryers per doe each year, for an approximate market total of 400 fryers each year. The grant covers costs associated with a small building, cages, additional breeding stock and a watering system.

Quinton and Kelley are fulfilling the high demand in their community for rabbits raised with no synthetic chemicals and growth hormones. Some of their customers have offered to recruit buyers if they offer rabbits that have been grown-out on organic feed. They will also market through local tailgate markets and restaurants.
