Useful Plants Nursery specializes in growing food and medicinal plants for local and regional markets, including fruit and nut trees, berry bushes and herbaceous perennials. With this grant, Chuck is building a propagation greenhouse to limit the purchase of bare root stock from states thousands of miles from his nursery.
Half of the prop house contains benches with integrated bottom heat and a mist and sprinkler system for cuttings. The other half has rodent-proof seedbeds with bottom heat and a sprinkler system for growing seeds. The nursery sells most of its plants to the public at farmer’s markets and festivals with some sales through landscapers.
