Sleepy Hollow Farm Greenhouse – Grant Award: $3,000
“The grant allowed me to get the greenhouse to start plants earlier. The growing season here, especially for gourds, is limited. Sometimes 2-3 weeks really makes a difference. Growing the gourds saves me a lot of money in buying the transplants.” ~ Mike Glover
Mike is a life-time gardener, and he helped his family raise tobacco prior to 1970. He is currently a part-time organic gardener and specializes in growing gourds to sell to craftspeople.
With his award, he will expand his operation by building a 14×16 greenhouse to start and grow vegetable & herb plants to sell and use for his operation. He sells vegetables directly to Swain county residents at the local tailgate market, produce stands and craft shows.
