Billy and Pam Zimmerman
$2,500 — Berry Production
Because of this grant “We will be able to help promote and preserve local farms and sustainable agriculture practices in Western North Carolina.” ~ Billy and Pam Zimmerman
Billy and Pam Zimmerman raised tobacco on their farm for 32 years. The idea of raising and selling berries on the tobacco fields started six years ago and has now become an exciting agri-tourism experience. With the support of the 2005 WNC Ag Options grant program the existing berry operation will be expanded by adding 500 black raspberries plants. The Zimmerman’s will also purchase a small greenhouse in order to supply high quality locally grown transplants to visiting tourists.
Expected income from berries and transplants sales over the next 3 years Grant Award: $3,800.
