$2,500 — Irish Potato Production
Because of this grant “We will be able to transition from lost tobacco income into full time vegetable and livestock production.” ~ Dan and Catherine Roberts

Dan and Catherine Roberts have grown tobacco and vegetables in Madison for years. Dan is a full time farmer who is interested in experimenting with Irish potato production for the local market. The Roberts’ family has a passion for the land, community and actively shares their passions with all who purchase local produce from them.

Expected income from Irish potato production – $10,000 in 2005.

With the support from NC Cooperative Extension agriculture agents, Ross Young, David Kendall and Elizabeth Tolley this project has the potential to replace lost tobacco income.
