Matt Rhea

$2,500 — Trout Farm
Because of this grant “I will be able to directly market fresh trout from our farm as a value-added product under FDA standards.” ~ Matt Rhea

M. Rhea and his wife Tracey have worked with their local Cooperative Extension agent Skip Thompson to increase production and processing capacities of their trout farm. To increase revenue on the farm, Matt will use the grant money to purchase equipment (pin-bone remover, recording thermometers, electrical smoker and cooler) for the processing facility.

Expected income from direct sales of trout $17,000 over the next two years.

Matt Rhea is working closely with his NC Cooperative Extension Agent.
