$2,500 — Bio-Diesel
Because of this grant “We will be able to heat our 2 greenhouses with a more fuel efficient energy that will save both money and our environment.” ~ Joseph Miller
J. Miller and his wife are full time farmers that have researched the idea of producing bio-diesel from restaurants’ cooking oil. With endless hours of support from their local extension agents the Millers will create bio-diesel that costs $2.76/gallon the first year, and $1.00/gallon subsequent years compared to the cost of propane at $1.50/gallon.
The expected income from greenhouse sales in the next two years is approximately $15,550.
Joseph Miller is working closely with his NC Cooperative Extension agents, Jean Harrison, Stanley Holloway and Claude Deyton.
