Carl Patterson

$2,500 — Goats
Because of this grant “I will start a goat operation on forage that will allow me the time to also produce my crops. This should mean extra money in my pocket.” ~ Carl Patterson

Carl is a full-time farmer who ordinarily raises produce to sell locally, tends bee-hives for honey, and since 1974, still farms burley tobacco. Searching for more stable commodities, Carl used his grant to assist in extensive field renovation and adding a fencing system to allow for rotational grazing of goats for meat production.

Expected income over two year period – $11,000.

Carl Patterson has worked closely with his local extension agent.
